FOUNDATION WATERPROOFING

The integrity of any structure’s foundation is critical to upholding. A compromised foundation can create significant problems for the rest of the building. The bulk of foundation issues stems from water. Wet soil underneath the foundation can cause the foundation to swell or weaken.

A key way to ensure that water is kept away from the concrete in your foundation is through exterior foundation waterproofing and making sure that water is drained away from concrete foundations.

Signs of Water Damage Outside Your Home

Some common signs that would indicate you may have some water damage in your foundation are:

Cracks in The Foundation. If you see any cracks forming inside walls, floors, or the ceiling, it’s quite likely they are due to water damage.

Mould and Mildew. Damp soil or air creates an ideal environment for mildew and mould to grow. So if you discover either of these fungi in your basement, it’s quite likely that there is some form of trapped moisture causing this problem.

Unpleasant Odor. The presence of water can create a foul or strange odor over time. As soon as you begin to notice this, foundation waterproofing should be a top priority.

Stains. Do you notice some yellowish-brown stains on your ceiling, walls, or floor? Discoloring is a sign that there is a leak somewhere. While stains can be fixed aesthetically with paint, you need to make sure that you address the underlying issue causing the leak. Failure to do so will lead to even bigger problems.

Foundation Repair Process in Ottawa

Our foundation repair process involves:

Excavation – this is done until we reach the foundation step or footing. There may be key areas in the foundation where excavation is necessary, but if the damage is extensive, the entire perimeter may need to be excavated.

Repairing cracks – one of the effective ways to stabilize the foundation is to repair all cracks. The type of tools and materials needed for the repairs will depend on the scope of the damage.

Applying Black Tar – for this to be effective, you will need to apply a thick layer of black tar over the wall.

Installing Weeping Tile – we use a 4-inch perforated pipe and install the new sump pump inside the building. We ensure that the pipe runs outside the weeping tile and into the sump pump outside.

Install Membrane Overlaps – this is added over the weeping tile and 3/4 of it is covered with gravel. *Only for window wells, we add vertical weeping tiles that connect to the main drain.
